WHO ARE WE? The Association of Managed Care Dentists (AMCD) is a non-profit, voluntary organization run by the Board of Directors who are practicing managed care dentists.  The Association was established as a reaction to the rapid growth in the Capitated and PPO insurance markets which left many dentists misinformed about changes occurring in the managed care arena.

WHAT IS OUR MISSION? Since 1992 we have served as a forum for educating dentists on managed care issues ranging from practice management to legislative proposals.  We are interested in influencing plan design, quality assurance procedures, and quality patient care.  Our seminars (for members only) are held annually, usually in November). Members are sent quarterly newsflashes on important “hot” topics.

WHY IS AMCD IMPORTANT? We are the only known organization representing the interests of managed care dentists.  We feel that an organization will always be taken more seriously by both dental plans and government officials than any one single individual.  Additionally, the seminars held by AMCD provide the only opportunity for managed care dentists to come together and discuss those unique managed care problems we face daily.

SOME OF OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

• Our November seminars have been an overwhelming success. The opportunity to interact with dentists who have similar challenges is emphasized in our seminars.

• We provide a forum where dentists who must make "managed care decisions" can meet and discuss the issues and problems that are most challenging while at the same time hear speakers who can provide insights and solutions to these problems.

• Our organization has received significant coverage in "Managed Dental Care News". Other articles about our group have appeared in "Dental Economics."

• Current board members and our past president Dr. Alan Rubenstein and  Dr. Greg Kaplan have met with officials of the newly formed Dept. of Managed Health Care where they had an opportunity to present some views of managed-care dentists in California.

A final note:  Membership in the AMCD is a great way for you to make a difference. We encourage your participation, and the recruitment of other managed care dentists.
